He was black face, when there were blacks and whites separate. Jackie likes sports. He played football in Hawaii; his team was the Honolulu Bears. When he was 23, he was drafted into the army. However there were segregations again. Pro baseball was segregated. Black players weren’t allowed in Major League Baseball, so they played in their own leagues. Finally his team won the World Series. In 1964, Jackie did more to help African Americans. He helped start Freedom National Bank, one of the first banks owned by African Americans. By 1971, Jackie’s health was failing. He felt it was time to record his life. Jackie died of heart attack on October 24, 1972, at age 53.
